Agile Load Balancing

Load balancing solutions and experts that take a load off your servers and mind.

Simply having a load balancer is not an adequate solution for dealing with the workload of your site or application. As complex of a solution as it is, load balancing is as much about the people who configure its myriad settings, as it is the device. The wrong settings render it virtually obsolete, defeating the entire purpose–optimizing resources, decreasing total cost of ownership, maximizing throughput, minimizing latency and avoiding overloads.

Before ever procuring, installing and configuring your managed Agile Load Balancing solution, a PEER 1 Hosting’s solution architect takes the time to understand your application or website and its workload, consulting closely with your IT people. That way, it is configured to your and your users’ needs–not the generic needs and workloads of a generic business.

PEER 1 Hosting’s Agile Load Balancing ensures that traffic is distributed to the least-used server(s) in your network by utilising a “least-sessions” algorithm. Requests are distributed amongst your managed servers residing within our FastFiber Network, routing your traffic to the “healthy” servers operating at the lowest capacity. Or, for eCommerce websites, we can set up ‘sticky sessions’ to send successive requests from the same client to the same server. Either way, the end result is an unobstructed experience for your users, regardless of any server and workload issues happening behind the scenes.

How it Works

A three-step process represents the most efficient way of increasing capacity, scalability and performance while involving no extra cost in equipment, software or human resources.

  1. A Virtual IP is assigned to the application to be load-balanced.
  2. Your servers are divided into groups, each appearing as a single “virtual” server and sharing a single, virtual IP address.
  3. Requests come in on this virtual IP, which you can assign to any domain name, just like a real IP.

Features and Benefits

You need more than a load balancer. You need the experts and the solid infrastructure to create a full load balancing solution.

High Availability and Redundancy

If one of your servers fails a routine "health check," it is automatically removed from hour load balanced environment, delivering peak availability for HTTP, SSL and FTP applications.

PEER 1 Hosting Infrastructure

We own outright the 10Gbps FastFiber Network, linking our 18 data centres across EMEA and North America. This infrastructure inherently delivers a fast, extensive and resilient backbone for our Agile Load Balancing solution.

Automatic Traffic Routing

Your inbound traffic is distributed to the web or application server with the least sessions, and with no content sharing between load balanced servers.

Initial IP Setup and Configuration

PEER 1 Hosting network engineers manage your load balancers from the very start, ensuring that their setup and configurations are set to your specifications.

Ongoing Management of Dedicated or Shared Load Balancers

Whatever option you choose, our network engineers work to diligently to patch, upgrade and maintain your load balancer throughout its lifecycle.

Priority Activation

React to demand fluctuations and scale up or down, and on demand, without costly server upgrades.
