Server technology could create more IT jobsImproved server technology may help to create more jobs in the IT sector, an industry expert has claimed.

Dave Donatelli, who is the executive vice president and general manager of servers at Hewlett Packard, dismissed fears that improved servers would make a lot of IT staff redundant.

In an interview with itpro.co.uk, he claimed that improved technology would give IT staff more time to spend on innovation - as well as providing fast internet for a larger range of web users.

He said: "When it comes to IT budgets, 70 per cent of what they spend is running legacy applications. If you look at what businesses want to do, they don't want to spend 70 per cent of their IT dollars getting no new innovation, they want to spend that on innovation.

"So really we what we have set out to do, be it with these servers or with converged infrastructure, is to allow them to spend more on innovation and less just keeping what they already have running."

According to zdnet.co.uk, Donatelli claimed that automation is something that many web admins are looking for in new server technology. He added that the majority are likely to be excited at the prospect of working more towards innovation.
