As many of you know, here at PEER 1 we do things a little differently. As we grow, it’s critical that we maintain the brilliant quality of our people and hire the best talent there is to find.
Important as hiring is, we think there’s nothing worse than sitting in a sweaty meeting room trying to get the measure of a potential colleague, and nothing shows a candidate’s true colours better than getting competitive.
Golf, or rather, mini golf is our new secret weapon. There’s nothing like a putting green to help reveal a candidate’s true colours. It’s not about how good you are at golf of course (no pun intended); we’re looking to see if candidates come up to par on characteristics we know make the difference between good and great. Decision-making, strategy, winning mentality (who knows – should they let Dom win!?) and of course, how they accept defeat, all reveal the inner psyche in a way normal interviews can’t. The golf scorecard has some serious psychology behind it and we’ll be checking out whether candidates pick risky hole-in-one strategies, or prefer to take more shorter shots, how well they multi-task (speak, play and think at once) and how they adapt their game-plan when best-laid plans go wrong.
We think it’s is a hole-in-one idea. And so does Management Today.
